Report on KBEC (KaunBanega English Champion) Quiz Competition organized by Communication Skills Department at SVCE College

Overview:

Date- 08 April, 2025

Venue- Pharmacy Auditorium

Time- 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM

Organizers- Ms. Anjali Bhatia (HOD), MsPooja Rajput, MsDhruvikaRazdan, MrShubhamVerma, MsSonuGorana (Communication Skills Department)

Participants- I Year Students (IT, CS, ME, CE, EC, EX)

An English Quiz Competition was organized at Swami Vivekanand College of Engineering (SVCE) under the guidance of Communication Skills Department.The event was designed to challenge students' knowledge, critical thinking, and communication skills. The competition aimed to provide a platform for students to showcase their expertise, develop their skills.

Key Features:

1.      Objectives

·         To assess students’ knowledge and understanding of English Skills and Vocabulary.

·         To foster a culture of academic excellence, critical thinking, and effective communication among students.

·         To provide a platform for students to develop their stage presence and vocabulary.

2.      Competition Format

The KBEC Quiz Competition consisted of unique vocabulary related questions. The quiz also followed a unique pattern of question-answering, taking inspiration from TV Show- KBC. The topics included:

·         Synonyms

·         Antonyms

·         Homophones

·         Spell-check

·         One word Substitution

3.      Rules

·         Each participant received 05 questions and had 20 seconds to answer each.

·         Two lifelines were available for each contestant: “Expert Advice” fromMs. Anjali Bhatia and the option to “Skip” a question.

·         The participants with the most correct answers were awardedwith the first, second, and third prize respectively.

·         In the event of a tie, a tie-breaker round with one question was conducted, and the first participant to answer correctly was declared the winner.

4.      Judges and Scoring

Panel of Judges consisted of Dr. NileshDashore and Dr. ManikWalenkar. The judges evaluated contestants based on their responses, speed, and accuracy.

5.      Prizes and Recognition

The event concluded with prize distribution where the winners were facilitated with First, Second and Third positions whereas, all the participants were appreciated with Participation Certificates. Name of the winners are mentioned below:

1. First:  Ronak Bangale  (CS 3)

2. Second:  Riti Payasi  (CS 3)

3. Third:  Lucky Sahu  (IT 1)

Conclusion:

The KBEC Quiz completion not only encouraged a healthy spirit of competition but also enriched the participants’ knowledge and enthusiasm for the English language. The event was conducted with an engaging and educative manner which proved to be a success. Students showed great zeal and engagement due to the unique format of the quiz. Such initiatives, when held under academic platforms, foster learning beyond classrooms and held students enhance their linguistic capabilities.
